Hello & welcome, I’m Helen.
Thank you so much for being here.
I spent most of my life following rules. The kind of rules that turn ‘good girls’ into hard-working, people-pleasing, exhausted women. Then I hit midlife. A madness that tips you upside down, suspends you by your feet and shakes you hard. So hard you sometimes feel like you might not make it. It shook all those rules right out of me.
Through painting I am rediscovering myself. I am learning how to follow my curiosity and trust my intuition. My work is inspired by a passion for the natural world and for the magical, often unexplainable parts of life. I paint colour and light, freedom and joy, connection and hope.
In calligraphy, the line is considered to hold the creators energy of being. This is how painting feels to me - a transference of self (beliefs, feelings, emotions, memories) onto canvas, through the hand and the brush.
“Watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you, because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it”
Roald Dahl

84cm square (framed size). Acrylic paint on stretched canvas. Framed in a white wood floating tray frame.
This painting is all about having fun. Letting go, playing with paint, shapes and marks and trusting my gut. It’s a reminder that life is a lot more fun when you do what you want, and ignore all the noise telling you how you are supposed to behave.
